Winfried is Associate Professor/Reader in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Hon. Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the University Hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham. He is also Chairman of the Scientific Committee of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He undertook his ophthalmic training at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital and the rotation based at the Leeds General Infirmary. He had his medical retina fellowship training in University Hospital, Ghent. He is a medical retinal specialist and has significant expertise in the contemporary management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). His main research interests are ocular wound healing, pathogenesis and therapies of macular diseases.
